Elise Mertens v Harriet Dart Head to Head
There have been no previous matches between these two players at the WTA level but they did meet once on the ITF circuit in 2014. Mertens had won that in straight sets

Mertens Yet to Get Going on Grass in 2021
Mertens had a 22-8 win-loss record coming into the grass swing this season and having shown solidity on this surface in the past, she was expected to do well here too.
Unfortunately for Mertens, things have gone slightly off track on grass.
Starting out at Birmingham, Mertens was 3/10 to defeat Ajla Tomljanovic in her opener but ended up losing in three tie-breakers. At Eastbourne, she was drawn to face Cori Gauff and looked to have put the Birmingham loss behind her when she bagelled her opponent in the first set.
Things went pear-shaped for Mertens after that. She found it difficult to break past Gauff in the next two sets, losing 7-6 (5), 7-5, in what would have been a heart-breaking defeat.
Coming into Wimbledon with her confidence hit badly, Mertens will hope she can take something out of how she had gone about her business the last time she had participated in this competition. Mertens had made it as far as the fourth round at the 2019 Wimbledon and that’s where she needs to seek inspiration from.

Dart on a Three-Match Losing Streak
And that’s come on grass. After winning her opening round match at Nottingham against Emma Raducanu, Dart has lost three in a row, going down to Lauren Davis, Caroline Garcia and Elena Rybakina spread across three different tournaments.
Incidentally that win against Raducanu was just Dart’s second main draw victory of the season.
What might help Dart coming into this match is the manner of those losses. In all of those matches, Dart showed exemplary fight taking them all to three sets. Coincidentally the final set in all of those encounters ended 6-4 in favour of her opponent.
Dart’s best performance in a Grand Slam had come at Wimbledon the last time it was held. She had defeated Christina McHale in that one, then overcame Beatriz Haddad Maia in the second before going down to Ash Barty.
Can she get close to getting to the second round here?
Mertens v Dart Prediction and Tip
A straight-set win looks most likely for Mertens but what can push him back a tad is her own form on grass. Expecting over 19.5 games in a Mertens victory.
Tip: Mertens to win in straight sets: 3/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
