Anett Kontaveit v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head

There has been only one previous match between these two before this with Vondrousova having won that indoors in Biel in 2017.

Kontaveit Coming off Eastbourne Final

At the time of writing, the result of that match is still to be decided but Kontaveit has already managed to make it to the final at Eastbourne Open. A win over Bianca Andreescu in that encounter was the highlight of that campaign.

And it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise given Kontaveit’s performance on grass has always been on the rise. In fact, Kontaveit’s sole WTA title came on the grass court of Hertogenbosch in 2017.

Unfortunately for Kontaveit, she is yet to advance beyond the third round at Wimbledon, having lost each time at that stage the last three times she played.

Kontaveit had earlier this season split with her coach Nigel Sears, and that decision seems to have already freed her up a tad as has been the case during this tournament in Eastbourne.

She has a challenging first round encounter but should start a favourite.

Vondrousova 1-9 on Grass

For a player who has done well on clay and to an extent on hard court surface, Vondrousova has an appalling record on grass.

Since having made her debut on grass at the 2017 Birmingham Open, Vondrousova has featured in a total of nine such tournament main draws. And a first round win in Eastbourne in 2018, Vondrousova has lost them all.

This includes two appearances on grass this season, at Berlin and Eastbourne, and losing in the first round at both. At the former, Vondrousova was a 6-4, 7-6 (8) loser at the hands of Ludmilla Samsonova and then up against Ons Jabeur at the latter, she fell to a 6-3, 7-6 (4) defeat.

Can she take any positives out of those two results or would it be a bridge too far against Kontaveit?

Kontaveit v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip

This seems to be bit of a no-brainer given the direction in which these two players’ form on grass has gone. Which is also why despite being ranked 27th and 40th respectively, Kontaveit is 1/3 favourite to win this.

Tip: Kontaveit to win AND Under 20.5 games in the match: 7/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
