Medvedev Eyes First Grass Court ATP final
After a successful end to 2020 and a strong start to 2021 Down Under, Daniil Medvedev had a bout of Covid-19 that kept him out of the early portion of the clay court season. When he returned to the clay swing, it was a dismal run at both Madrid and Rome for the world number two as he headed to Roland Garros stating that clay was not a surface he enjoyed playing on.
It was a surprisingly good run for Medvedev at the French Open, where got his act together making the quarter-finals dropping only one set and looking in good touch and happy with his groundstrokes and game. Although Medvedev lost out to eventual runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarters, all things taken into consideration it was a good run at the clay slam for the Russian.
A disappointing first round loss at the ATP 500 in Halle against Jan-Lennard Struff marked the start of the grass swing for Medvedev, and thus the Russian decided to play here in Mallorca the week before Wimbledon.
Medvedev has not had the best of runs on grass in the past, making the third round at Wimbledon on two occasions, and being a semi-finalist at the ATP 500 at the Queen’s Club and in Eastbourne at the ATP 250 there.
The top-seed has alluded to playing here at Mallorca in order to get some valuable grass court practice ahead of Wimbledon, and so far that seems to have gone well for him. After a shaky start against Corentin Moutet in his opener, the Russian came back to win in straight sets convincingly and continued the trend the following round against world number 14 Casper Ruud.
In his third final on grass, Medvedev will be aiming for a first final and possible title run, with Wimbledon just three days away now.

Carreno Busta Grass Confidence On The Rise
World No. 13 Pablo Carreno Busta of Spain has had a strong season so far and came in to grass with a strong record that also includes a title in Marbella and a semifinal finish in Barcelona. However, the Spaniard came into the grass season with a 2-8 career record on the surface. His only wins came in Antalya in 2019, where he reached the semifinals before bowing out to Lorenzo Sonego.
A two-time U.S. Open semifinalist and two-time French Open quarterfinalist, Carreno Busta has made five main draw appearances at Wimbledon, but is yet to get his first win at the All England Club.
It has been a good start for him this week here on the grass as he defeated both Jiri Vesely and Jordan Thompson in straight rounds and will look to make an unexpected title run if possible here on.
Medvedev v Carreno Busta Prediction and Tip
Both players have not met with much success on grass thus far in their careers and are using the week before Wimbledon to get accustomed to the surface. While both have looked comfortable this week, the Russian’s powerful serve and shot making is better suited for the surface. Expect Medvedev to make the final four in two competitive sets
