Johanna Konta v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and the scoreline is 1-1. While Siniakova defeated Konta in the semifinal of the 2017 Shenzhen Open, Konta got her revenge in the second round of the 2019 Wimbledon, winning 6-3, 6-4.

Konta Relieved after Nottingham Title

One did not see that coming. Not even given Konta’s solid record on grass.

It has been that kind of a season for Konta, who came into Nottingham Open, her first tournament on grass this year with a 3-7 win-loss. It had been a terrible season by most standards but for someone ranked 30th in the world it couldn’t have gotten worse.

Which is why the relief after winning the Nottingham Open title, winning five matches in a row despite being a favourite in each of them.

Speaking of Konta’s performances on grass, her best ever Grand Slam performance came at Wimbledon when she made the semifinal in 2017. And two years later, she was a quarterfinalist at the same tournament, following which she has lost opening rounds at four of her six Grand Slam appearances.

Can she use her Nottingham Open result and comfort on grass to push on deeper in this competition?

Siniakova Could Throw a Spanner in the Works

It wasn’t the best of starts to the season for the former world number 31 but Siniakova seems to have caught up in more recent times.

The Czech won just two of the first eight matches she played on hard court surfaces and only one of them came in the main draw of a competition. It was only when Siniakova switched over to clay that the results began going in her favour.

A quarterfinal at Istanbul, a semifinal at Parma and then a third round at Roland-Garros followed but more vitally, there were shock wins against Caroline Garcia, Serena Williams and Veronika Kudermetova to her name too.

Now, at the time of writing this, Siniakova has already made it to the semifinal of her only grass court competition, defeating Varvara Gracheva, Jessica Pegula and Laura Siegemund to get there.

And whatever the result of her semifinal match one thing’s for certain, she could prove to be a handful for Konta, even if she doesn’t start out as a favourite.

Konta v Siniakova Prediction and Tip

Konta’s grass court record is far too superior to her opponent and while Siniakova can be expected to put up a fight we expect the Brit to come through.
