This will be a first meeting between the 27-year-old Russian and the 34-year-old Frenchman.

Breakthrough Year for Karatsev
It has been an extraordinary year for World No. 24 Aslan Karatsev and the Russian will hope to keep the good work going at Wimbledon.
Karatsev, who had never played a professional match on grass before this season, made his debut at Queen’s and defeated Alejandro Tabilo in the first round. He, however, lost in the second round to Cameron Norrie in straight sets.
The Russian made his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open this year and what an incredible debut it was! Coming through as a qualifier, Karatsev went on to beat Gianluca Mager (first round), Egor Gerasimov (second round), David Schwartzman (third round), Felix Auger-Aliassime (fourth round) and Grigor Dimitrov (quarterfinal) to reach the semifinals, before going down to eventual champion Novak Djokovic.
Soon after the Melbourne success, Karatsev went on to lift his first ATP trophy, winning the Dubai crown by beating Lloyd Harris in the final. He had won a total of six matches in the tournament and two of those came against Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals and Andrey Rublev in the semis.
Karatsev reached a second final in Belgrade, after scoring a shock win over Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, but couldn’t win his first title on clay, falling to Matteo Berrettini in the final.
The Russian is 23-10 in what has been a breakthrough year for him. He also made his Masters 1000 debut this year, reaching the third rounds in Miami, Madrid and Rome and the second round in Monte-Carlo. His Roland Garros debut wasn’t too impressive though as he won his opening round against Jenson Brooksby but lost in the second round to Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Karatsev has seen a massive jump in his rankings this year. Having never broken into the top 100, the 27-year-old came into the Australian Open as No. 114. Five months on, he is ranked 24th in the world and has become one of the most difficult players to beat.

Chardy on a Four-Match Losing Streak
Facing Karatsev will be France’s Jeremy Chardy, who lost both his grass court matches this year and comes to Wimbledon on the back of four consecutive defeats.
Chardy last won in the first round of Belgrade-2, defeating Tenny Sandgran. But a second round defeat Dusan Lajovic, started the sequence of defeats for the World No. 62, who lost to Stefanos Tsitsipas in the opening round at the French Open and to Yannick Hanfmann and Alexander Bublik in Stuttgart and Queen’s respectively.
The 34-year-old is 15-15 this year, thanks to a host of solid results in the earlier part of the season. A one-time champion from three finals on the tour, Chardy began the 2021 season with two back-to-back semifinal finishes in Antalya and Melbourne-2. He then reached the quarterfinals at Rotterdam, defeating Ugo Humbert and David Goffin in the earlier rounds, but faltered against Andrey Rublev in the last eight.
Chardy made it to another quarterfinal in Dubai but fell to Denis Shapovalov in straight sets.
The 2019 French Open doubles finalist won the Wimbledon boy’s title in 2005 by beating Robin Haase in the final. He will be making his 13th main draw appearance at the Championships and his best so far has been a fourth round finish in 2014. A 2013 Australian Open semifinalist, Chardy made it to the second round at Wimbledon in 2019. He defeated Martin Klizan but lost to David Goffin.
Overall Chardy has a 28-32 record on grass and that includes a runner-up finish to Richard Gasquet at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2018.
Karatsev v Chardy Prediction and Tip
Form favours Karatsev, who has played just two matches on the surface to his opponent’s 60. However, Karatsev has been a huge success this season and he will look to keep that momentum going at Wimbledon. Expect the Russian to win in either four or five.
Tip: Karatsev to win in four sets: 10/3 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
