Lauren Davis v Jodie Burrage Head to Head

Davis and Burrage have never faced off against each other before this.

Davis Made Nottingham Semifinal

While Davis enters Wimbledon on the back of successive defeats at Birmingham and Eastbourne, in the first round and qualifiers respectively, she will take some amount of confidence after reaching the semifinal in Nottingham before that.

The only other time Davis won back to back matches this year came at Guadalajara where, as a qualifier, she reached the last eight stage.

A former world number 26, Davis has done reasonably well at Wimbledon despite her fall in performances elsewhere. At both, the 2014 and 2019 editions of this tournament, Davis made the third round which is also her best Grand Slam showing.

At that latter edition, Davis dumped out the defending champion Angelique Kerber from being a set down, having entered the tournament as a lucky loser.

Can Davis come up with a repeat showing at this Wimbledon as well, despite having fallen to 91st in the world?

Burrage Stumbles to Successive Defeats

To put it mildly, Burrage is lucky to have gotten herself a wildcard to the main draw as she enters this tournament having lost seven matches in a row.

And it’s not even like Burrage’s defeats have come in the main draw of WTA competitions, far from it in fact. The British player has played in one WTA main draw match and two qualifiers there, losing them all, to go with four successive losses at the ITF circuit as well.

It was her performances at the lower level that helped her rise to inside the top 300 in 2019 but since then she hasn’t been able to climb up the charts too much further. Her career-high rank of 233rd was hit that very year but consistent poor performances have meant she is currently 270th in the world.

And with her form looking the way it has in recent times, even the relief of having drawn a player who herself hasn’t done too well in recent times and isn’t even in the top 50, might not make much of a difference.

Davis v Burrage Prediction and Tip

Given Davis has done her best at Wimbledon, adding Burrage’s shoddy form to it we think the American is in line to make the second round with utmost ease.
