Bianca Andreescu v Alize Cornet Head to Head

This is their second meeting on the WTA Tour, with the last one taking place just a few weeks back in the WTA Berlin. Cornet stunned Andreescu 7-6(5), 7-5 to take that match.

Andreescu Looking to Avenge her Berlin Defeat

Canadian No. 1 Bianca Andreescu hasn’t had the best of the grass swing so far and is heading into Wimbledon, slightly out of touch.

In the Bett1Open, she fell to Cornet right in the opener while in the Eastbourne International last week, she was beaten by Anett Kontaveit in straight sets. With back to back straight-set defeats against the players who are ranked well below her, Andreescu’s confidence may be a bit fragile at the moment.

However, the 21-year-old is more than capable of delivering a solid run. In a few years since turning pro, she has achieved several big feats like winning the Indian Wells Open, Canadian Open, and the US Open in 2019, and reaching the final of the Miami Open 2020.

Seeded number five for the tournament, she has practically built her career and form on a foundation comprising a litany of impressive wins against several top 10 players like Angelique Kerber, Serena Williams, Garbine Muguruza, Elina Svitolina, and others.

But of late, Andreescu has looked a bit vulnerable. Case in point, in the French Open she fell to Tamara Zidansek in her first-round bout in three sets.

Cornet Eyeing Another Positive Run on Grass

By her standards, Alize Cornet has done well to build some rhythm ahead of the Grand Slam at the SW19. In Berlin, she reached the semis upsetting Andreescu and then Garbine Muguruza en route, but only to lose to Belinda Bencic.

In Bad Homburg, she was a bit unfortunate in her second-round game against Victoria Azarenka. She fought hard but lost the match in the final-set tiebreak.

These two tournaments mark the highlight of Cornet’s season. The No. 58-ranked player hasn’t been particularly phenomenal or impressive. Barring a third-round stint in the Volvo Car Open in Charleston, the 31-year-old has lost most of her matches in the early stages of the tournament.

Plus, her record at Wimbledon is not that great either – she has lost her opening-round match in London in the last three editions of the Slam.

Andreescu v Cornet Prediction and Tip

Andreescu will start this match as the favourite but Cornet, in light of her recent win over the Canadian, will look to deliver yet another upset.

Expect a good game of tennis, one that may extend into three sets.
