Davidovich Fokina at Career High Ranking
Despite retiring from his second round match at Eastbourne because of fitness related concerns, Fokina enters Wimbledon ranked 35th, his career-best ranking.
He had earlier won his opener at that tournament against Mikael Ymer and was leading by a set against Vasek Pospisil before having to retire from that encounter.
That first round win incidentally was the first time Fokina had ever won a match on grass, having played seven qualifying rounds and one main draw match before that.
It’s been a solid season all round from Fokina otherwise too.
Before coming into the grass swing, the Spaniard had carved out his best Grand Slam performance with a quarterfinal entry at Roland-Garros. More vitally, he did that with wins that included one over Casper Ruud, one of the top clay court players in the world.
A third round appearance at Rome Masters as a qualifier and a semifinal in Estoril were his other memorable performances on clay.
The big question would be if he can make a solid pivot on to grass in what will be his first Wimbledon appearance since becoming a top-40 player.

Kudla Coming off a Decent Grass Showing
Kudla’s fall to outside the top 100 on the rankings chart after having once reached 53rd in the world has forced him to play Challenger competitions.
And while he hasn’t won a title this year on that circuit, his performances have been steady; he has consistently reached the latter rounds of those competitions.
More recently after shifting to grass, Kudla opted to feature in back to back Challenger tournaments on grass instead of trying to qualify for the ATP mains. And that looks to have benefitted him greatly.
Because at the first of the two Nottingham Challenger tournaments, he defeated the likes of Dan Evans to make the final before going down to Frances Tiafoe while at the second he reached the last eight stage.
Where that helped him was at the qualifiers at Wimbledon where he won all three of his matches without dropping a set.
Can he now pose a threat for Fokina on a surface where he holds a 22-21 win-loss record, which is far greater than any of his other surface showings.
Davidovich Fokina v Kudla Prediction and Tip
Nothing to choose between the two according to bookmakers. Fokina is the higher-ranked played by some distance but is he good enough to beat a grass-court specialist? We don’t know yet but what we do think is likely is there could be more than three sets in the match
Tip: Four Sets (8/5) or Five Sets (12/5) in the match: (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
