Karolina Pliskova v Donna Vekic Head to Head

There have been four main draw matches played between these two players and Pliskova has won every single time. This includes a very recent outing that was held at French Open when they faced off in the first round and Pliskova had come away a 7-5, 6-4 winner.

Pliskova Finally Gets Going on Grass

It needed a turnaround of sorts but Pliskova used the conditions well to register a hard-fought but straight-set win over Tamara Zidansek in the first round at Wimbledon.

Pliskova came away from 2-5 down in the first set to complete a 7-5, 6-4 victory in an hour and 18 minutes that ensured she put a brake on her three-match losing streak. These included two defeats in a row on grass as Pliskova entered Wimbledon on the back of opening round losses at Berlin and Eastbourne.

The former world number one took time to get going as she was broken in her very first service game but once Zidansek had missed a set-point in the ninth game, there was no looking back.

Pliskova broke twice in a row to wrap up the first set and then again in the fifth game of the second while warding off a break-point on her own serve.

She will now get a chance to make it one step closer to her Wimbledon-best of fourth round when she faces a player she has never lost to in main draw WTA.

Vekic Maintains Steady Form after Injury Return

Things hadn’t been looking too good for Vekic before she went under the knife for her surgery but she looks to have made steady progress since her return.

After that opening round loss to Pliskova at French Open, Vekic is in her third grass tournament and has won at least one match in each of them. After a second round appearance at Nottingham, Vekic stormed into the quarterfinal at Birmingham where she lost to Heather Watson in straight sets.

And while she was the favourite against Anastasia Potapova in the first round here, Vekic managed to come through in straight sets to seal her second round berth.

Vekic won 6-1, 6-4 in an hour and 10 minutes, breaking her opponent five times in the match while losing her own serve only once. There was a flicker of a fightback from Potapova after she fell 1-6, 3-5 down as she broke Vekic in the ninth game of the second set but dropped her serve the very next game to allow the Croat a runaway win.

Things will get that much tougher for Vekic in round two though.

Pliskova v Vekic Prediction and Tip

Pliskova’s record against Vekic suggests it’s going to be difficult for the Croat to come through but we do expect some fight here. More than 20 games can be expected in this second round encounter which should go in favour of Pliskova though.

Tip: Pliskova to win AND Over 19.5 games in the match: 6/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
