Karolina Pliskova v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

Pliskova holds a 1-0 lead over her Czech adversary, last beating her in the 2019 US Open. She faced some resistance but won the game 7-6( 6), 7-6(3).

Pliskova Finally Gets Going on Grass

Karolina Pliskova arrived for the Wimbledon following a series of early-round exits in the grass-court tournaments. In the Bett1Open and Eastbourne International, the Czech was beaten in her opening-round matches respectively by Jessica Pegula and Camila Giorgi.

But here in London, she has done well to quell any doubts by relying on her massive experience as one of the top players on the WTA Tour. In the first round, she beat Tamara Zidansek in straight sets and followed it with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Donna Vekic.

Looking at her overall season, there are signs that the 29-year-old has been struggling with her form throughout. Case in point, she started the year as World No. 6 but now, has fallen down to 13th place in the rankings.

But not all has been dull and gloom for Pliskova – she did reach the final in the Italian Open (losing to Iga Swiatek in the final). With that, she also made it to the quarterfinal in Qatar and Stuttgart.

Martincova with her Best Wimbledon Run

Tereza Martincova is sailing on cloud nine at the moment, having just delivered the best performance here at SW19. In the first-round match, she beat Alison Riske and followed it with another victory over Nadia Podoroska. Up until these games, Martincova had never quite managed to move past her qualifying/first-round matches in Wimbledon.

If we are to look at her recent form, these results don’t seem that surprising. In the Birmingham Classic in June, she reached the quarterfinal as a qualifier, beating the likes of Samantha Stosur and Jelena Ostapenko. Martincova had a similar run in the Nottingham Open too.

These, in conjunction with a third-round appearance in WTA Dubai earlier in the season, have been among the highlights of her year so far. It seems that on grass courts, the 26-year-old has found her groove and in light of her recent results, she will fancy her chances of delivering an upset.

However, she will find herself at a psychological disadvantage when she faces the former World No. 1 as an #87-ranked player on the tour.

Pliskova v Martincova Prediction and Tip

On any other day, Pliskova would have started as the overwhelming favourite but her form has been a bit shaky of late. Martincova will definitely put up a good fight and possibly take this to three sets.
