Garbine Muguruza v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came at the 2020 Hobart International and Muguruza won that in a gruelling three setter which saw the third set go into a tie-breaker.

Muguruza Makes it Easy

Two matches played, two easy wins registered. Muguruza will be mildly surprised at the ease with which she has made it to the second round but the big question now is if she can sustain the same kind of form against a player who has a far greater pedigree as compared to her opponents so far.

Because in her first round Murray had defeated Fiona Ferro 6-0, 6-1 and then followed that up with a 6-1, 6-4 drubbing of Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove in the second. On the one hand, Ferro has really struggled on grass, having rarely won on that surface while Kerkhove, a 29-year-old had managed to qualify for what was her third career Grand Slam.

In short, these were two players Muguruza was expected to defeat and she has done exactly that with great aplomb.

Now comes her true challenge against a player who is not just ranked at her career-best of 24th in the world but also is one of the quickest improving players. Can Muguruza use her experience and stall the Tunisian?

Jabeur Notches up Eighth Grass Win

Venus Williams had called Jabeur an inspiration going into her second round match against the world number 24 and she sure played liked that.

Jabeur, who has risen to 24th in the world on the back of her solid performances on grass and the rest of the season as well in 2021, was a 7-5, 6-0 winner over Venus in the second round in an hour and 21 minutes.

A tough opening set could have gone either way after Venus broke Jabeur in the eighth game having dropped her serve only a game prior to that. Jabeur retaliated with a break in the 11th game that was followed by Jabeur serving out the opening set.

And once she had broken the American legend in the opening game of the second set, Jabeur looked to also break her opponent’s spirit in the process. Two more breaks of serves followed and while Jabeur took her time to serve it out – saving four break-points – she made no mistake off her fifth to come through.

With this, Jabeur had registered her eighth win on grass for the year, and with just one loss to go with that it looks like Jabeur could actually make a match of her third round encounter.

Muguruza v Jabeur Prediction and Tip

Muguruza is the favourite on paper but Jabeur, despite starting out as a a slight underdog at 13/10, will have a good chance. In fact a games handicap of +2.5 for Jabeur looks a good bet.

Tip: Games Handicap Jabeur +2.5: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
