Felix Auger-Aliassime v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

Their only previous outing came at the 2019 Queen’s Club competition, also on grass and Auger-Aliassime needed three sets and a 7-5 in the final set to register a win.

Auger-Aliassime Pushed to Four by Ymer

After back to back solid performances on the grass courts of Stuttgart and Halle in the lead-up to Wimbledon, Auger-Aliassime has now won successive matches to reach the third round at this competition for the second time in a row – emulating his Wimbledon-best from 2019.

The first round win was a fairly straightforward one as Auger-Aliassime routed Thiago Monteiro in straight sets but it was Mikael Ymer who tested out the Canadian in the second.

In a match that lasted two hours and 38 minutes, Auger-Aliassime came through 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1.

A heavy favourite coming into the encounter, Auger-Aliassime immediately showed why with a break of serve in the very first game and then held on to clinch the set. And even when he went 0-2 down, Auger-Aliassime levelled things out with a break of serve in the seventh game, it looked like things weren’t going to be too difficult.

All of a sudden though, Ymer broke the Canadian serve at 4-5 to win the set and then as Auger-Aliassime failed to get past his opponent’s serve, the third set went into a tie-breaker.

It was here that Auger-Aliassime’ finally turned things around, by first winning the tie-breaker and then taking advantage of a flagging Ymer morale to pocket the match.

Kyrgios Runs off to Easy Win v Mager

It was a vintage Kyrgios performance in the second round as he did not just run away to a straight-set win over Gianluca Mager, but also dished out a full repertoire of his shenanigans in the encounter.

After registering a hard-fought five-set victory over Ugo Humbert in the opening round, things became a lot easier for the Aussie as he came through 7-6 (7), 6-4, 6-4 to reach the third.

Kyrgios faced a set-point in the first tie-breaker, and then blew away a chance to win the set himself before converting his second set-point on his opponent’s serve. And then a break of serve in the third game of the second set and fifth of the third was all it needed for the Aussie to convert it into a win.

It doesn’t matter too much who Kyrgios is playing on the given day because the battle he typically faces is against himself and if he can sort that out, we could be in for a thrilling third round encounter.

Auger-Aliassime v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip

Auger-Aliassime has the form on his side, Kyrgios calls himself a part-time player who has still managed to beat a seeded player and another in straight sets. All of this points out to another hard-fought contest that looks most likely to see a fourth set and might even see a fifth.
