Hurkacz Eases Past Giron

World No. 18 Hubart Hurkacz moved into the third round of Wimbledon for the second time in his career, as the 24-year-old Pole defeated America’s Marcos Giron 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 44 minutes on Thursday.

Hurkacz didn’t face a break point in the second round contest against Giron, while breaking his opponent four times from 13 breaking chances. The Polish player also served 12 aces and 35 winners in the contest.

On Tuesday, Hurkacz had ended a six-match losing streak with a straight sets first-round win over 19-year-old Italian Lorenzo Musetti, who was making his Wimbledon debut this year.

The 14th seed, who had not won a match since beating Italy’s Thomas Fabbiano in Monte Carlo, a week after winning his maiden Masters 1000 title in Miami, had needed an hour and 50 minutes to beat the Italian 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1.

Following Thursday’s victory, the 24-year-old improved to 17-11 overall and 2-2 on grass this year. He had begun the 2021 season by winning his second ATP title, defeating Sebastian Korda in the final of the Delray Beach Open. In Miami, he scored wins over Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals, Andrey Rublev in the semifinals and Jannik Sinner in the final.

Bublik Takes Out Dimitrov

Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik is yet to drop a set at Wimbledon as he reached the third round with a straight sets win over 2014 semifinalist and 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov on Thursday.

The 6’5″ Bublik, known for his big serves, fired 35 aces and 63 winners to overpower the Bulgarian 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) in two hours and 26 minutes.

The Kazakh saved all five of the break points that he faced in the match and converted one of the six opportunities that he had to break Dimitrov’s serve.

Bublik, who had reached the Round of 32 at the U.S. Open in 2019, had lost both his first-round matches at the Wimbledon previously.

The World No. 38, however, got his first win at the All England Club by beating compatriot Mikhail Kukushkin in the opening round on Wednesday.

Yet to be broken in the tournament, the 24-year-old didn’t face a break point against Kukushkin, while breaking his serve six times in the match for a 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 win in an hour and 19 minutes.

Bublik had served 16 aces and struck 46 winners in the first round.

A four-time finalist on the tour, Bublik is yet to win a title. He reached two finals this year, but had to retire against Alex de Minaur in Antalya and fell to Alexei Popyrin in Singapore.

Hurkacz v Bublik Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz is the higher-ranked player and also seeded in the tournament, but he will be wary of Bublik’s power. The Polish player has already lost to the Kazakh once and it won’t be much of a surprise if Bublik does it again. It’s a difficult match to predict, and it may need more than three sets to separate the two.
