Karolina Pliskova v Viktorija Golubic Head to Head

While these two have never faced off on the WTA tour, they did play one match at the 2016 Fed Cup and Golubic had gone on to win that encounter in three sets.

Pliskova Continues to Dominate Opposition

Not too many would have imagined Pliskova to storm into the quarterfinal the manner in which she has done so far. Four matches played, four matches won, no sets lost.

And the latest in the line of being at the receiving end of Pliskova’s prowess was Ludmilla Samsonova, who might have been a wildcard entrant but on some kind of roll, having won a title in the week before Wimbledon.

Pliskova needed an hour and 16 minutes to get through, beating her Russian opponent 6-2, 6-3 to make it to her maiden Wimbledon quarterfinal. In her two forays here, Pliskova had stumbled at the fourth round stage, so that by itself would be a monkey off her back.

The Czech used her strong serve to outdo her opponent in this contest, slamming 10 aces and winning 83% of her first serve points. And while she was broken once – and it was the first break of the match for either player – Pliskova ran away with four of her own to complete the win.

With wins over Tamara Zidansek, Donna Vekic and Tereza Martincova, Pliskova should back herself to get past her next opponent, who had never seen the inside of the top 50 rankings before Wimbledon this year.

Golubic Ends Keys’ Run

Since losing the first set of her first round match against Veronika Kudermetova, Golubic has won eight sets in a row including an 11-9 in that very opening encounter.

Wins over Danielle Collins and Madison Brengle followed soon after and then Golubic, in her most recent match pulled off a resounding win over Madison Keys. Keys, ranked 27th in the world, did manage to push Golubic in the first set but once the Swiss player regained control of the set in the tie-breaker, there was no looking back.

Golubic, who had gone from 5-2 up in the first set to lose the initiative, snatched it back by running away to a 3-0 lead and then closing out 7-3.

Keys tried to fight back with a break in the very first game of the second set but Golubic wrested the initiative back with back to back breaks that helped her close out the contest.

With two WTA tournament finals under her belt already this season, Golubic has already shown her mettle at a Grand Slam but can she now ride on towards a win over a former world number one?

Pliskova v Golubic Prediction and Tip

Pliskova is 2/5 to win the match and 1/1 to do that in straight sets. I think backing Pliskoca in the kind of form she is in should be a good option.
