Jasmine Paolini v Ana Konjuh Head to Head
It will be a first meeting between the 25-year-old Italian and the 23-year-old Croatian.

Dumped out of the first round of Wimbledon by Germany’s Andrea Petkovic, Italy’s Jasmine Paolini returns to clay, the surface where she reached two finals this year, winning the WTA 125K in Bol and finishing runner-up at the WTA 125 K in Saint Malo.
The 25-year-old Italian right-hander is 5-9 in the main draws at the top level this year, with her best being the Round of 16 appearance at the Gippsland Trophy. Paolini defeated Rebecca Marino and Wang Qiang in the first two rounds but was stopped by Karolina Muchova in the third round.
Since then, the Italian hasn’t won two successive matches at the senior level.
An eight-time champion and seven-time runner-up at the ITF Circuit, Paolini has been brilliant in WTA 125K events though. In Saint Malo, she defeated Elsa Jacquemot, Nina Stojanovic, Anna Karolina Schmiedlova and Varvara Gracheva en route the final, but couldn’t win the title after being humbled by Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic.
Last month in Bol, Croatia, she reached the final again, beating Viktoria Kuzmova, Olga Govortsova, Kristina Kucova (quarterfinal) and Anna Blinkova (semifinals), before clinching her first WTA 125 title by defeating Arantxa Rus in the final.

Konjuh Slowly Climbing Back the Rankings
Paolini will meet former World No. 20 Ana Konjuh in the first round.
The 23-year-old Croatian, who qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon, was beaten by Sara Sorribes Tormo in the first round at the Championships last week.
A two-time Grand Slam singles champion at the junior level, Konjuh, who struggled with injury since reaching a career-high ranking of 20 in 2017, won her first main draw match in three years, at the Miami Open earlier this year, beating Katerina Siniakova in the first round.
She went on to beat Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek in the next two rounds before falling to Anastasija Sevastova in the Round of 16.
Back in form, Konjuh then reached the quarterfinal in Istanbul and went all the way to the final at the Serbia Open.
Coming through the qualifiers, Konjuh defeated Alison Van Uytvanck, Yulia Putintseva, Nadia Podoroska and Maria Camila Osorio Serrano before falling to Paula Badosa in the final.
Konjuh trailed the Spaniard 2-6, 0-2 before having to retire from the contest. Since then Konjuh has done well in the qualifiers, but has struggled to win matches in the main draw.
The Croatian, who began the season as World No. 477 is slowly climbing back the rankings and will hope to do well in Hamburg as well.

This will be a close contest with the match going the distance. However, Konjuh will be expected to win this in the third.
