Irina Bara v Kristyna Pliskova Head to Head

Both of their previous meetings have come in the qualifying rounds of competitions and in 2018. Both were won by Pliskova, defeating Bara in Madrid and Linz.

Bara Returns to Clay after One Match on Grass

After what seemed like an inconvenient stopover at the Wimbledon qualifiers where Bara lost in the very first match she played, she has returned to feature on clay. It is a surface she enjoys and does well on.

This year, for instance, taking into account tennis at every level including UTR Pro Series, Bara has a 20-6 win-loss record on clay while elsewhere she has played five matches and lost every single one of them.

More recently, Bara featured at WTA Bol and reached the semifinal – a run that included a win over Martina Trevisan in one of the earlier rounds.

If she can take the confidence from that win, Bara could be a tough cookie to crack but it must be quickly added her record otherwise this season in main draws of tournaments has been underwhelming to say the least.

Pliskova Finally Wins One

At one point in her career, Pliskova was ranked 35th in the world. Those days are long gone especially in the light of her performances in recent times.

This year alone, Pliskova featured in 10 tournaments and her only win in the main draw came at Wimbledon when she downed Astra Sharma in three sets. That aside, Pliskova had suffered nine successive opening round losses, and at times to players ranked lower down the WTA rung.

Pliskova’s last win on clay came at the 2020 French Open where she had reached the second round, but it must be said she had made the semifinal in Prague just prior to that.

So as far as getting results in her favour is concerned, Pliskova could be a win or two away from getting back some of her lost rhythm. And against a player who has also struggled in recent times and is ranked not too far from her own ranking, it could be the Czech player’s chance to win one.

Bara v Pliskova Prediction and Tip

Pliskova holds a very slight edge here at 4/5 but we believe she should be able to come through here and make it to the second – matter of time before she finds her winning momentum against players ranked as low as her opponent.
