Anna-Lena Friedsam v Andrea Petkovic Head to Head

27-year-old Anna-Lena Friedsam is heading into the tournament with a win-loss tally of 7-8. Her last tournament was Wimbledon where she lost in the first qualifying round to Eden Silva. Such has been the case for her in the last three events where she has fallen right in the qualifying matches.
Currently ranked 115 in the singles ranking – just 15 places above Petkovic, the German hasn’t had that exciting of a season so far in 2021. If anything, she has always been among those players who would spend their time alternating between WTA and ITF circuits but not a lot to show for in either.
Her best run of the year came in the WTA 500 event in Stuttgart where, as a qualifier, she made it to the second round before succumbing to Aryna Sabalenka.
A few weeks later, she had a similar run in Parma too – this time, she fell to Caroline Garcia.
Friendsame has reached the final of a WTA event just twice in her career – once in 2015 and the second time in 2020. In both those cases, she couldn’t quite manage to go the distance.

Petkovic Relying on Experience
Andrea Petkovic has had a comparatively better season than Friedsam in 2021. Even though it is still a litany of early-round exits, most of those have come in the main draws.
Case in point, she reached the second round in Wimbledon last week before losing to Barbora Krejcikova. It was a similar story in the Bad Homburg Open too, where Amanda Anisimova stopped her in the second round with a 6-1, 7-5 win. That said, these runs were among the highlight of her season.
As a former top 10 player, Petkovic has got a rich history and pedigree on the WTA Tour. She has six singles titles to her name and has got the skillset needed for a good run. It is just a matter of her shaky form at the moment.
Friedsam v Petkovic Prediction and Tip
This is one match that can very well go either way. Petkovic is experienced but given her proclivity to succumb early in the tournaments, she is in for a fight. It wouldn’t be surprising if it turns into a slogfest with many games played.
