It’s not as if Di Giuseppe has managed to win a few titles even at the ITF level this season but when you start your season with six successive defeats, any number of wins would sound like a turnaround.
Which is what has been the case with Di Giuseppe who had to wait until May to win a match on the ITF circuit, before finally doing the same at WTA Parma. Since then, there has been some respite for her, which includes a quarterfinal appearance at the Montpellier ITF competition but even those results have been few and far between.
Coming into this tournament, the 212th-ranked Di Giuseppe needed to feature in the qualifiers and while she lost in the second round there she has made it to the main draw as a lucky loser.
Now facing Collins, Di Giuseppe will have her work cut out but a strong showing here could help her through the result of the season whatever the result of this match.
