Djere Shocks Struff in Opener

Despite going into his first round match as an underdog, Djere came through against Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets to march on to round two.

Djere, a clay court specialist, won 6-4, 7-5 in an hour and 50 minutes thanks to his ability to keep his nerve – and serve – at the really big moments in the encounter.

In the first set, for instance, there were no breaks of serves till the ninth game before Djere broke his opponent as he served to stay in the set in the 10th.

The second set saw something similar. There was an early exchange of service breaks but the set looked to be headed through to a tie-breaker with Struff serving at 5-6. Again, Djere took advantage of a slightly stumbling Struff serve to complete the victory off his third match-point.

The Serb had earlier made the final at Cagliari Open this season before managing a third round at French Open. He will back himself to get deep in this tournament again.

Seyboth Wild Overturns Set Deficit

He was an overwhelming favourite going into his opening round match but Seyboth Wild needed to overcome the loss of the first set to get past Nicola Kuhn.

Seyboth Wild was shockingly poor in the first set as he fell to a 0-5 deficit but from there on he lost a further of just four more games to wrap up the encounter 1-6, 6-1, 6-2. He was on court for exactly two hours to set up what was his first ever main draw win since his Santiago title in March 2020.

In the interim period, Seyboth Wild had gone 11 tournaments without winning a single round, implying this result would have come as a rather big relief for the Santiago Open winner.

Will that be enough of a confidence injector though? Because Djere is a strong player on clay and in recent times has shown he can push on against players not ranked as high as him.

Djere v Seyboth Wild Prediction and Tip

This is an interesting one. On paper, Djere is a heavy favourite – not sure of the 1/4 odds though – but Seyboth Wild did show some of his old sparkle. Could look at a games handicap or even have Seyboth Wild win a set.
