Alexander Bublik v Ivo Karlovic Head to Head
This will be the first time that the 42-year-old Karlovic will meet the Kazakh, who is 18 years younger to him.

Top seed and World No. 37 Alexander Bublik comes to Newport with a 24-17 record in 2021. He will begin his campaign in the second round on Wednesday having received a first-round bye.
Bublik is coming of his best-ever Wimbledon showing, having reached the third round for the first time, by beating Mikhail Kukushkin and Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets but was blown away by Hubert Hurkacz in the Round of 32.
Yet to win a title on the tour, Bublik has four runner-up finishes, two of which came at the start of this year.
The 24-year-old Kazakh reached the final in Antalya, defeating Matteo Berrettini en route but had to withdraw with an injury after just two games in the final, handing the title to Australia’s Alex de Minuar.
He reached a second final of the year at the Singapore Open but the title remained elusive as he went down to Australia’s Alexei Popyrin despite taking the first set.
Bublik was also a quarterfinalist in Miami, Madrid and Eastbourne.
The big-serving 6’5″ Bublik is 5-3 on grass this year and 9-7 overall on the surface. He reached the final in Newport in 2019, defeating Tennys Sandgren in the quarterfinals and Marcel Granolers in the semis, before falling to John Isner in the title clash.

Former Champion Karlovic Starts Off With a Win
Facing Bublik will be the king of aces Ivo Karlovic, who knocked out Spain’s Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the first round. The 42-year=old lost the first set tie-break, but cameback strongly in the next two to take the one-hour-and-51-minute contest 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-4.
The 6’11” Karlovic, who has over 13,000 aces in his 21-year career, served 24 aces, saved all six break points that he faced and broke his opponent thrice from nine breaking opportunities.
Ranked 210th in the world, the Croatian has featured in 19 finals over his career, winning eight of them. One of those titles came in Newport in 2016, when he defeated Gilles Muller in the final. It was his third consecutive final in Newport, having finished runners-up in the previous two years.
Overall, Karlovic has a staggering 74-43 record on grass, having won three titles and finished runner-up four times on the surface.
This is his 10th appearance in the tournament and he has a 17-8 record here.
Bublik v Karlovic Prediction and Tip
Bublik’s the top seed, has enjoyed a great year so far and would be expected to win the big-serving battle. Karlovic will make it tough though having made his intentions clear in the first round. One can expect three sets with a couple of tiebreaks.
