After a woeful start to the season, Querrey looks to have stalled his poor form on grass. And he would like to make the last grass tournament of the season count.
Because coming into the grass swing, Querrey had won just two matches spread across six tournaments, and all of a sudden he has increased his tally of victories to nine over the following four.
This includes a couple of top showings; a semifinal at Stuttgart where Querrey had an easy draw for sure but he followed it up with a runnerup trophy at Mallorca where he had the likes of Adrian Mannarino and Roberto Bautista Agut to get past to make it to the final.
A first round win at Wimbledon should have seen Querrey make a better run but he fell in the second to James Duckworth in four sets.
He has a good chance to continue with that kind of form here, as he takes on Cressy following an opening round bye.

Cressy in His First Full Grass Season
The only previous match Cressy had played on grass before this year came at this very tournament in 2019. It was a qualifier he lost.
This year, Cressy has been a part of a couple of Challenger tournaments on grass where he lost in the first round, and he followed that up with a qualifiers defeat at Wimbledon.
So when Cressy defeated Paolo Lorenzi in the first round here in Newport, it was his first win on grass. To go with that, it was also his maiden victory in the main draw of an ATP competition since he made the second round in Singapore in February.
That Cressy took full toll of Lorenzi’s struggles, winning 6-1, 6-2 should give him a lot of confidence coming into this one against Querrey. Question is if he can make it two in two on a surface where he hasn’t had a lot of results going his way?
Querrey v Cressy Prediction and Tip
Querrey is a runaway favourite at 4/9 and that’s a safe bet to go with – he shouldn’t have too many issues coming through in this one. What Cressy could do is press his opponent in one of the sets, even getting it to a tie-breaker but over 25.5 games as offered by bet365 for 5/6 doesn’t whet my appetite too much.
