Vasek Pospisil v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head

Pospisil and Gojowczyk have never faced off in a competitive match before this.

Pospisil Underwhelming in 2021

Before he entered Eastbourne International in June, Pospisil had featured in five tournaments all season and won just one match. He had lost five including the first round in Halle, the first tournament Pospisil played on grass.

He seemed to have turned things around in Eastbourne when he won the first two rounds to make the quarterfinal, but a second round exit at Wimbledon followed soon after.

Which brings him to a tournament he had last played in 2018, and made the quarterfinal. With a bye in the first round here, Pospisil now has a chance to emulate the same especially since he is playing an opponent ranked 131st in the world.

Here’s the catch though. While Pospisil has barely played any tennis all season, his opponent has been involved in 17 tournaments including Challengers. That kind of experience and match fitness could work against the Canadian.

Gojowczyk Sends Out Krueger

Taking on the American qualifier Mitchell Krueger in the first round, Gojowczyk wasted no time in getting past him to register his second win on grass for the season.

Gojowczyk was on court for just over an hour to make it past his opponent, winning 6-2, 6-2 and sealing his second round berth. This came after he had made the second round at Stuttgart Open as a qualifier but then was sent packing from the first qualifying round at Wimbledon.

Incidentally, Gojowczyk has featured in quite a few Challenger competitions in 2021 but when it comes to ATP tournaments, there haven’t been too many of them. And the one in which he did do something of note came in February in Montpellier, where as a qualifier he he overturned odds to defeat Jan-Lennard Struff, Jiri Vesely and Denis Novak to make the semifinal.

Can he do something similar here?

Pospisil v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip

While Pospisil is a strong favourite here with bookmakers offering 2/5 to win it, we believe Gojowczyk would come into this with the momentum he needs and could force his opponent into a third. Expect Gojowczyk to win a set.

Tip: Gojowczyk to win a set: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
