Tennys Sandgren v Jason Jung Head to Head
There have been no previous ATP competition meetings between these two players before this. They did meet on the Futures circuit in 2013 and Sandgren had won that encounter in straight sets.

Sandgren’s Improved Showing on Grass
Before the start of the grass swing, Sandgren had won just three main draw matches all season. Now, three tournaments on grass, the American has already won three more, including this first round victory over Joao Sousa in Newport.
Sandgren needed an hour and 31 minutes and faced a couple of blips before coming the 6-4, 7-6 (3) victory over his Portuguese opponent.
The first set went to script for Sandgren as he broke Sousa twice in three games to race off to a 5-1 lead. And while he was broken back, the American still held that break advantage to take the lead.
In the second, the two went toe to toe with neither player getting a break-point till the 11th game when Sousa dropped his serve to love. He broke back the very next game to push it into a tie-breaker but from there on it was one-way traffic in favour of the American, capping his third successive first round win.
Can he now go one better?

Jung Wins a Main Draw Match After a While
The last time Jung had won a match in the main draw of an ATP event, it was February 2020, more than 17 months ago. That had also come in the USA, when on the hard courts of New York Open, Jung first qualified for the event and then took down Kevin Anderson, Cameron Norrie and Reilly Opelka to make a shock semifinal appearance.
Life hasn’t been the same for Jung, who has gone from one defeat to another since; sometimes failing to qualify for main draws and at others falling at the very first hurdle.
Which is why starting out against the 248th-ranked Brayden Schnur he was still a second-favourite in this opener.
Fortunately for Jung, he finally made it through, winning in three hard-fought sets. The Taiwanese player took three hours and 23 minutes to go past his opponent, 7-5, 6-7 (1), 7-6 (4). Things will only get tougher from here on but a win, and a fighting one like this, could go a long way in getting him going.
Sandgren v Jung Prediction and Tip
While both players have had their form issues, Sandgren should have this covered against a player who hadn’t won anything since February 2020. Expect a Sandgren win with a touch of Jung fight.
