Bernarda Pera v Anhelina Kalinina Head to Head
While they have not faced off in main draws of WTA events, there have been two previous meetings between these players before this encounter.
The first came on the ITF circuit in 2017 and Kalinina won that final on clay in three sets. In the second, Pera retaliated with a three-set win in the qualifiers of the 2019 WTA Dubai.

Pera Goes Past Grabher
It started out as a tough first round encounter but Pera finally found a way to get past Julia Grabher and seal her second round spot.
Pera, who has never gone beyond the second round a competition this season, needed two hours and eight minutes and had to overcome the loss of the first set to complete her victory. She won 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 to seal the deal.
A couple of early breaks in the first set gave Pera a 4-1 lead but Grabher responded superbly to win six of the next seven games and the set. Stung by the lack of effort in the second half of the opening set, Pera came back strongly in the second with two early breaks that gave her a 5-0 lead.
And in the third, she repeated the dose, while dropping her serve once but this time around there was no scope of a comeback as she completed the victory.
A win in the second round will give Pera her first set of successive wins this year, having made it to second round in six tournaments and lost all of them. This could be her best chance.

Kalinina Continues Her Winning Run
While most of those were matches on the ITF circuit, Kalinina has now won 11 encounters in a row and that’s the kind of confidence she would take with her even against a player ranked higher than her in this second round.
It wasn’t the easiest first round win for Kalinina though, with her opponent Anna Kalinskaya having her chances in the encounter. Due credit to Kalinina then to hold her serve and go past her Russian opponent 6-4, 7-6 (5) to enter the round of 16.
In the first set, Kalinskaya had a chance to break back when Kalinina served for the set at 5-4. And then in the second, Kalinskaya did that with her opponent serving for the match and then could have been 4-1 up but Kalinina took control and completed the victory.
Interestingly, she now starts out as a favourite in this match.

Yep, Kalinina holds bit of an edge here at 4/5 with Pera starting out evens, but one or the other way we believe this could be a tight encounter. Good one to go with over 20.5 games in it.
