Sasnovich Doesn’t Drop a Game

She was aided by her opponent’s injury alright but Sasnovich did not waste too much time on court in her opening round match in Budapest.

In fact, she was on court for only 41 minutes as she took a 6-0, 2-0 lead in the encounter before Timea Babos retired from it because of an injury. In a rather one-sided encounter, not only did Sasnovich break Babos four times, she also did not face a single break-point off her own serve.

Sasnovich dropped just eight points on her own serve in the match before her opponent called it quits.

She had come into this tournament having played on the grass court of Wimbledon, where helped by another player’s injury, managed to make the third round. Serena Williams’ first round fall allowed Sasnovich to make it to the next stage where she took down Nao Hibino before managing a set against Angelique Kerber.

The Belarusian will now face unheralded but a clay-court specialist in her second round.

Much-Improved Udvardy Looking to Break into Top 200

Hungarian player Udvardy is 22 years old and ranked 204th in the world – her career-best ranking. And with two ITF titles under her belt already this year, Udvardy looks like one of the players to watch out this season.

Because other than those two titles, Udvardy also reached two other ITF competition finals and a semifinal, making it a season to remember already.

And when she carried that form over to the first round against a more experienced Mayar Sherif, one can see Udvardy could be a player to beat. She needed an hour and 14 minutes to make it past Mayar, winning 6-3, 6-1 to seal her meeting with Sasnovich.

Udvardy needed a break of serve in the first set and saved three break-points of her own, before crashing through her opponent’s serve on three separate occasions to complete the win.

Can she now cause one of the bigger upsets of her career?

Sasnovich v Udvardy Prediction and Tip

While Sasnovich starts out a favourite, she is not an overwhelming one here and odds of 11/8 for an Udvardy win sound like a tempting option. Could go to three sets too.
