Casper Ruud v Holger Rune Head to Head
Ruud and Rune played only once before this – a first-round match at the Monte Carlo Masters in April. The Norwegian won comprehensively 6-2 6-1.

Casper Ruud is the top seed at the Bastad Open, and he is undoubtedly the overwhelming favorite to walk away with his second title of the season this week.
Ruud is the best of the bunch, having put together a career-best record on clay this season. He is 17-5 on the surface, aided of course by that fantastic run of results between Monte Carlo and Madrid. And in the midst of semifinal finishes in those two Masters 1000 tournaments, he also clinched his second career title in Geneva.
Ruud’s French Open journey did not go as planned. He was tipped to make serious inroads in his quarter but failed to reach the second week. He was beaten in five sets by Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round.
The Norwegian got a rare two weeks of no play, but he made a cameo on the grass just before Wimbledon. And surprisingly, Ruud managed to pick up two wins in Mallorca en route to the quarters where he was beaten by Daniil Medvedev.
Ruud’s stay at Wimbledon was brief. He lost in the first round to Jordan Thompson despite fighting back from a two-set deficit. The grass-court Slam remains the only Major that Ruud has never won a main draw match.

Rune Fights Back to Defeat Albot
18-year-old Holger Rune rallied from a set and a break down to defeat Moldova’s Radu Albot 4-6 6-3 6-0 to advance at the Bastad Open.
Rune who has now won 26 matches on clay this season is fresh from a quarterfinal showing at the Perugia Challenger. The Danish teenager has enjoyed a steady rise in 2021, highlighted by winning his maiden Challenger crown in Biella and reaching his first quarterfinal at tour level in Santiago.
Currently sitting at No. 211 in the world rankings, Rune gained entry in the Bastad main draw as a wild card following a series of the aforementioned breakthroughs.
He produced a gutsy come-from-behind victory over Albot. The Next Gen star admitted to nervousness and his inability to find his level in the first set in which he was outplayed for the most part. But he managed to redline his game in the second and third sets, converting five out of 12 breakpoints.
Ruud v Rune Prediction and Tip
This should be a really good test for Ruud’s title ambitions this week. Holger Rune is playing much better tennis than what his current ranking suggests. But he cannot afford another slow start against a quality player in the mold of Ruud. We expect the Norwegian to advance, but it should be closer than their previous meeting.
