Kevin Anderson v Jack Sock Head to Head

Four previous matches have been played between these players and the record is 2-2 on head to head. Three of these four came in the USA with Anderson winning two of them while one match came on clay which was won by Sock. They last met in 2017.

Anderson Silences Fighting Ofner

It wasn’t the easiest straight-set wins for Anderson but he had enough firepower left in his tank to get past Sebastian Ofner in his second round victory.

Anderson won 7-5, 7-6 (3) in an hour and 33 minutes to make it successive wins for the third time this season and he will now be gunning for three consecutive wins for the first.

Serving up 18 aces in the encounter, Anderson did not face a single break-point in the entire encounter but it was just the difficulty in breaking his Austrian opponent that was the cause for his concern.

He converted his second break-point in the opening set in the 11th game and then served it out before taking the second set in a tie-breaker.

The South African, who has now fallen to outside the top 100 had earlier sped past Ilya Marchenko in the first round of the tournament.

Sock Has No Problems against Nishioka

While there wasn’t much to choose between these two second round opponents according to the bookmakers, Sock had other ideas. He came through in straight sets against Yoshihito Nishioka to carve himself a rare quarterfinal berth at an ATP tournament.

Sock routed Nishioka 6-2, 6-3 in an hour and eight minutes to double his main draw win count for the season.

In fact Sock hadn’t played in a single ATP tournament all year and entered this one in Newport on a wildcard, having fallen outside the top-200 on the rankings charts.

After he opened his campaign here with a three-set win against Alex Bolt it did look like all those performances in the Challengers had prepared him well for these challenges and he made it two in two with four breaks of serves even as Nishioka failed to get past his service.

Now comes Sock’s biggest challenge; one of these two veterans will make it to a rare semifinal place.

Anderson v Sock Prediction and Tip

While Anderson starts off a favourite at 5/9 we think Sock’s resilience will come through and we could see him push the South African hard – might even see two tie-breakers if it ends up being a two-setter.

Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/6 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
