Alexander Bublik v Jason Jung Head to Head

While they have never faced off on the ATP main tour, there have been two meetings in the past on the Challenger circuit. Jung won both of them, played in 2018, at Dallas and Zhangjiagang.

Bublik Tames Karlovic

It wasn’t the most straightforward of victories but Bublik would be relieved to have come through in this extended grass run for the world number 37.

The top seed won 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-1 in a contest lasting nearly two hours against the tall-serving Ivo Karlovic. What was so interesting about his win was he managed to out-ace Karlovic, 22 to 21, a feat not too many can proudly claim against the Croat.

In a rather cagey affair where breaks were few and far between, Bublik edged ahead of his opponent in the tie-breaker in the first set when he won a point off Karlovic’s serve at 5-6.

And while Karlovic retaliated with the first service break of the match in the second, Bublik came back strongly to put two past his opponent in the decider to clinch the win.

Bublik had a first round bye and is coming off some solid performances on grass including a third round appearance at Wimbledon and a quarterfinal at Eastbourne. Can he now go deep enough to give himself a chance to win the title?

Jung Continues Shocking Spree

Taiwan’s Jung was 11/10 to win his opener against Brayden Schnur, and then in his second round match against Tennys Sandgren, he was nearly 2/1 to repeat the same.

He has managed to win both, improving as the tournament has gone on. After getting stretched to three sets by Schnur, Jung strolled past Sandgren 6-2, 6-2 to seal his quarterfinal berth – his first since the New York Open of 2020.

Jung needed an hour and eight minutes to get past his opponent breaking him four times in all. What would please Jung the most is he faced six break-points but saved all of them with ease, not allowing the 78th-ranked Sandgren a look-in.

At New York last year, Jung had gone on to defeat Kevin Anderson, Cameron Norrie and Reilly Opelka to clinch his semifinal spot. Can he now make it three in three in Newport too?

Bublik v Jung Prediction and Tip

While Jung has shown there’s still enough left in the tank, Bublik should have the pedigree to tame his opponent. Jung could still give some fight and we might see a third set as well, but Bublik to go through to win.

Tip: Bublik to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
