Arruabarrena Coming off Budapest Qualifying Loss

After having made it to the second round at Bastad Open earlier this month, Arruabarrena would have backed herself to at least make it to the main draw on the clay court of Budapest.

Unfortunately for her, she crashed out in the very first qualifying round of that tournament. What made it even worse was the manner of her defeat.

Having gone into that match against the 458th-ranked Victoria Duval as a heavy favourite, she crashed to a 6-2, 6-2 rout to crash out of the competition.

Arruabarrena will like to go into this encounter thinking of her top performances in recent times. The two-time WTA tournament winner had earlier qualified for Bogota Open and then won a couple of rounds to make it to the quarterfinal – her best showing of the season.

Facing a player who is ranked similar to her and not quite at her best on clay might help.

Min Confident from Prague Display

While Min’s performances in clay tournaments haven’t quite been up to the scratch, she will come into this tournament in Palermo with some sort of results under her belt.

Making it to the main draw at Prague last week, on hard court, Min overcame odds to defeat Samantha Stosur and Nina Stojanovic and make it to the quarterfinal. Her win against Stojanovic was quite special too, having gone into that encounter at 7/2 to win it and coming back from a set down to clinch the victory.

Coming back to clay, however, will be a question-mark for Min, who last won a match on dirt in 2015. That’s right, it’s been more than six years since Min’s last match win on clay and to expect her to add another one here against a player who relishes her time on this surface might be tough to expect.

Can she put up somewhat of a fight though?

Arruabarrena v Min Prediction and Tip

While neither player has a record to boast about at the highest level in 2021, Arruabarrena’s form on clay edges her opponent’s and we will be happy to back her for a win.
