Aliaksandra Sasnovich v Weronika Baszak Head to Head

The two players have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Baszak Makes her WTA Debut as the Wildcard

Currently ranked #1199 on the singles circuit, it is fair to say that the 18-year-old Weronika Baszak is still in the early stages of her career.

Up until last year, she was competing on the juniors circuit where she picked up 7 singles and 10 doubles ITF junior titles. She was also the 2020 Australian Open Junior Girls runner-up.

The Polish teenager has now set her sights on the top-tier events, making her professional debut just nine months back in November. Playing mainly on the ITF circuit, Baszak is set to make her WTA debut here in Gdynia.

There is some reason to believe that she may upset Sasnovich – the youngster was the quarterfinalist in a couple of ITF events this season. While this may not seem a lot, it is certainly a huge feat for a novice player like Baszak.

Sasnovich Hoping for a Deep Run

The season so far for Aliaksandra Sasnovich has been a pretty uneventful one. With her best run of the year coming in Wimbledon where she reached round three (after a walkover against Serena Williams in the opener), the Belarusian will look to make an impact here in the Poland Open.

In all fairness, her path to the final seems a bit open now. Four of the top six seeds have withdrawn from the competition, including last week’s WTA champions Tamara Zidansek and Yulia Putintseva.

But then again, Sasnovich – current World No. 87 – is a player who has often fallen to players ranked well below her. Case in point, she fell to the then #204 Panna Udvardy in Budapest last week. Similarly, the 27-year-old was also beaten by Priscilla Hon (#176) in the first qualifying round of the Bett1Open.

Sasnovich v Baszak Prediction and Tip

Competing in her home tournament, the stage is set for Baszak to make her WTA Tour debut in the best way possible. The precedent is also laid for her to beat Sasnovich – all she needs is the confidence and composure to give the Belarusian a good fight.
