Taberner On the Rise
Taberner is a player on the rise, having been in four Challenger finals in the past three, winning three of them, including two tournaments in 2021, in Antalya in February and Aix-en-Provence last month.
All of his 15 singles and seven doubles finals on the junior tours have been on clay.
Those results have helped propel; him up the world rankings, and he is now threatening to break into the top 100 for the first time if the current rate of progress can be maintained.
That form is also starting to translate to the senior ATP tour as well. Last month he qualified for the French Open for the first time since 2018, and not only did he qualify for Hamburg, but he also beat experienced compatriot Feliciano Lopez in the first round before he was beaten by another Spaniard, the eventual winner, Pablo Carreno-Busta.
He was given a kind draw in the first round against the world number 289, Nino Serdarusic, and brushed aside the challenge of the Croatian wildcard with comparative ease, dropping just four games in the entire match and never once losing his serve.
Travaglia Breaks Losing Sequence
Travaglia reached his first senior final earlier this year in the Melbourne warm-up event, the Great Ocean Road Classic, before losing to teenage compatriot Jannik Sinner.
That helped him briefly reach a career high ranking of 60 in the world, although he has fallen back since then, and had been on an extended poor run of form, and, prior to his first round match in Umag, the Italian had won just three of his past 18 matches.
However, he got back to winning ways by beating Jaume Munar of Spain, the world number 67, on Monday.
Travaglia began well, breaking Munar twice early and, although the Spaniard then recovered one of the breaks, the Italian broke him again to make sure of the set.
Both men dropped serve once in the second set, and, although Travaglia had two match points, he could not convert either one, and it went to a tie-break.
Travaglia soon found himself a mini-break up, and when Munar dropped his serve twice more, the Italian had another match point. This time he took it.
Taberner v Travaglia Prediction and Tip
Based on comparative recent form, Taberner will start the favourite to win this match. He is a player in the ascendancy, whereas the Italian has been struggling for wins.
