Aslan Karatsev v Tommy Paul Head to Head
Karatsev and Paul have never played each other in a competitive match before this.

Karatsev in Strife after Solid Season
The sudden rise of Karatsev looked to have surprised a few tennis experts this season but as he enters his first Olympics competition, the Russian will be hoping to rediscover his winning ways that look to have gone missing in recent times.
Karatsev’s season began at Australian Open where he, as a qualifier, made it as far as the semifinal. It took the world number one and eventual winner Novak Djokovic to take him out.
A maiden title at Dubai followed soon after while he made it to his second final of the season in Belgrade in April.
Unfortunately for Karatsev, things haven’t been as good since. In the 12 matches that have followed since holding aloft that Belgrade runnerup trophy, he has won just six and lost the other six. This includes a first round defeat at Wimbledon where he was sent packing by Jeremy Chardy.
The good news for Karatsev is he is back on the surface he so loves and have a decent shot at his opener here.

Paul 12-13 This Season
Having broken into the top 60 in the rankings early last season, Paul would be slightly frustrated at not having been able to plough through after that. His career-best ranking of 50th in the world came last month but it’s been a slow grind for the American.
And that can be seen in his results too with Paul winning just 12 of the 25 main draw matches he has played this season. This includes a semifinal appearance at Parma in May, his best showing for the year.
A second round exit at French Open followed soon after but Paul then missed the grass swing including Wimbledon because of an injury.
Paul, therefore, enters this tournament on the back of no match practice since June 2, and that could play a role in how he goes about his business here.
Karatsev v Paul Prediction and Tip
Karatsev might not have a lot of good recent form but combine his performances on hard court with Paul’s absence from the sport and we are looking at a win for the Russian.
