Garbine Muguruza v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head

There have been two previous matches played between these players and Muguruza won both times. The first came in Dubai last year and she had needed three sets to get through while the latest meeting came earlier this year in Doha where Muguruza raced off to a straight-set win.

Muguruza Hits Form Rut Since Dubai Title

Overall, it hasn’t been too bad a WTA season for Muguruza, having won a title in Dubai and reached two other finals. From the standpoint of the courts where this Olympics competition will be played, Muguruza will know she has a very good chance given what she did earlier this season on hard courts.

Since her third round defeat at Abu Dhabi, Muguruza has made it to the final of Yarra Valley Classic where it took Ash Barty to take her out.

A fourth round at Australian Open followed where Muguruza fell to Naomi Osaka before it needed Petra Kvitova to defeat her in the final at Doha.

It was at Dubai that Muguruza finally lifted her first title of the year, overcoming a list of A stars, including Amanda Anisimova, Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, Elise Mertens and Barbora Krejcikova.

And while she hasn’t been able to maintain that same kind of form since then, Muguruza will hope she can conjure up the hard court form from the start of the season.

Kudermetova Needs to Turn Things Around

Like Muguruza, Kudermetova had also made a solid start to the season and it wasn’t restricted to hard court surfaces.

The Russian made it all the way to the final in Abu Dhabi where she fell to Aryna Sabalenka but then on the clay courts of Charleston, Kudermetova finally doubled her WTA title count.

A semifinal at Istanbul followed soon after but since then Kudermetova’s performances have fallen drastically.

In two of the six tournaments she’s played, Kudermetova has won two successive matches, in two others there have been a round won apiece but more recently, she has lost in the opener at both Eastbourne and Wimbledon.

Can she overturn this against a player like Muguruza first up?

Muguruza v Kudermetova Prediction and Tip

Muguruza is a favourite here, sure but is the difference as stark as the 1/3 odds on offer for her win? Could see a solid battle here with Muguruza winning a tight one in the end.

Tip: Muguruza to win AND Over 19.5 games in the match: 7/5 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
