Davidovich Fokina Off to a Flying Start
Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina got off to a flying start at the Olympics, as he needed just 63 minutes to dispatch Portugal’s Pedro Sousa in the first round on Saturday.
The 22-year-old raced to a 5-0 lead in the first set, before losing three straight games, but he quickly got his act together to serve out the first set and then looked flawless in the second, bagelling the Portuguese and moving into the next round.
The Spaniard won 78% first serve points and 57% return points during the 6-3, 6-0 win.
It’s been a brilliant year for Davidovich Fokina so far. He reached his first major quarterfinal at Roland Garros and also made a top 40 debut. Although more dominant on clay (14-7 in 2021), he looked very comfortable on the hard court surface on Saturday. A win against Millman could pit him against Novak Djokovic in the next round.

Millman Sends Musetti Packing
Australia’s John Millman had a tough opener against promising Italian teenager Lorenzo Musetti, but the 32-year-old safely dealt with the threat to keep his Olympic dreams alive.
The World No. 44 needed an hour and 36 minutes to take the first round contest 6-3, 6-4.
There was just one break of serve in the first set, but five in the second, with both players breaking each other twice in the first six games. Millamn edged ahead with a vital break in the ninth game and the served out the match in the next game.
The 2020 Nur Sultan champion hasn’t had the best of years bringing in a 10-16 record to Olympics. But a first round win against a dangerous opponent will give him a lot of confidence going into the next round.
Davidovich Fokina v Millman Prediction and Tip
Although Millman’s form has been dodgy this year he will feel a lot more confident after his solid display in the first round. But beating Davidovich Fokina will be a huge ask, particularly after the Spaniard’s performance in the first round. Expect a close contest with the Spaniard going through.
