Novak Djokovic v Jan-Lennard Struff Head to Head
This is one of the most one-sided rivalries around with Djokovic having defeated Struff all the five times they have faced off before this. Three of these matches came last year.

Dellien Makes No Dent on Djokovic
In the end, Hugo Dellien earned himself a Djokovic t-shirt that he would probably keep with himself to remember his first ever match at the Olympics. As it turned out, Djokovic ensured it was his last for this edition.
A 6-2, 6-2 win in an hour and three minutes was on expected lines, with Djokovic breaking his opponent twice in each of the two sets. In return, Djokovic didn’t face a single break-point of his own.
While he hit just 10 winners, Djokovic didn’t have to do much more than that as his opponent assisted him with 15 unforced errors. In the end, Djokovic made it his 19th win in a row at a competitive level.
Going up against Struff shouldn’t be that big of an issue for Djokovic either, given his form, his stats against his opponent and the fact that the world number one has looked invincible most times in the recent past.

Struff Mauls Monteiro in Opener
Struff did not have a lot going for him form-wise in the lead-up to these Olympics games but when he took to court against Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro, something did click for him.
As a result, the German carved out a straight-set win, clinching a 6-3, 6-4 victory to set up this meeting with Djokovic. It took him an hour and 17 minutes to roll into the second round.
It took all of two games for Struff to jump into the lead as he broke his opponent and while he didn’t get himself a further break, the German clinched the set easily. And the same story repeated in the second set too with Struff getting himself an early break and then resisting any breaks of serves on his own serve.
Struff will now have an uphill task of not just beating the in-form world number one but also overturning his 6-5 win-loss record on hard courts this season. Somehow, it sounds like an improbable one.
Djokovic v Struff Prediction and Tip
So Djokovic is a heavy favourite to win in straight sets which isn’t that big a surprise but here’s what we believe. Every now and then, Djokovic has this habit of dropping the odd set en route his title and we think that could happen in one of the next couple of rounds too. Not too bad an option too as far as the odds are concerned.
