Zverev Eases Into the Second Round

World No. 5 Alexander Zverev began his Olympics challenge with a straightforward win over Chinese Taipei’s Lu Yen-hsun on Sunday. The German struck nine aces on his way to a 6-1, 6-3 win in 59 minutes.

Zverev was dominant right from the start, breaking Lu thrice in the first set. The Chinese Taipei player tightened his service game in the second set, but got broken in the sixth game and couldn’t muster a fightback.

The 2018 ATP Finals winner and 2020 U.S. Open finalist, Zverev has displayed great form this year, bagging two titles in Acapulco and Madrid and making the semifinals at Roland Garros.

The German came to Tokyo with a solid 27-11 record this year.

Galan Makes and impressive Start

Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan too got off to a great start, as he knocked out Egypt’s Mohamed Safwat in straight sets on Sunday.

The 25-year-old, who has slowly been making an impression in the big tournaments, saved the only break point that he faced in the match while converting three of six to score a 7-5, 6-1 win in an hour and 28 minutes.

The Colombian won 75% first serve points and 66% points on the second serve as he outclassed the 30-yer-old Egyptian.

Galan had an impressive run to the third round of the French Open last year and made his third round debut at a Masters 1000 event in Miami this year. Ranked 113th in the world, he came to Tokyo with an 8-8 season record.

Zverev v Galan Prediction and Tip

This should be another straightforward win for the German. Galan will be a tougher challenge than his first-round opponent, but Zverev should still win in straight sets.
