Karen Khachanov v James Duckworth Head to Head
The pair have played each other once before, in the second round of St. Petersburg last year, Khachanov winning in straight sets.

Khachanov Overcomes Early Setback
Khachanov, playing local favourite Yoshihito Nishioka, denied home support because of Covid restrictions at the Olympics, initially struggled against the world number 55.
In a first set where there were very few break opportunities, it was he who dropped his serve in the eighth game allowing Nishikori to establish the lead.
However, after the first three games of the second set went with serve, the match was turned on its head when Nishikori lost four games in a row to go two breaks down. Khachanov consolidated his advantage and the match was level.
Another sequence of four lost games effectively ended Nishikori’s remaining hopes in the third set and he was well beaten in the end.

Duckworth Made to Fight by Slovak
On paper, Duckworth was given an easy first round draw against Lukas Klein of Slovakia, currently the 246th ranked player in the world.
The reality though proved to be somewhat different.
In a first set where serve dominated, the only break points created were against the Duckworth serve in the eleventh game, the third of which Klein converted.
And when the Australian dropped his serve in the opening game of the second set, his Olympic hopes looked like they were slipping away.
But he fought back to level, and then broke Klein once more, then saving two more break points before finally wrapping up the set.
With serve yet again the major force in the third set, a tie-break was needed to settle the tie.
And it was Duckworth who secured the first mini-break and then seized another one. He missed his first match point, but not the second.
Khachanov v Duckworth Prediction and Tip
Khachanov is tipped to win this match. He is seeded, the higher ranked of the pair, and won their only previous match. Backing him to do that in straight sets.
