Camila Giorgi v Elena Vesnina Head to Head
Giorgi has a losing record against Elena Vesnina. The 58th-ranked Italian has lost two of three meetings, in 2014 and 2016 – both on hard courts. But the two players have not faced each other since 2017 – the last time Giorgi posted a win over the Russian on the clay of Strasbourg.

Giorgi Dispatches 11th Seed Brady
Camila Giorgi mastered Jennifer Brady in a power-hitting battle between two of the fiercest strikers on the WTA tour. Giorgi needed 68 minutes to record a 6-3 6-2 win in the afternoon where the seeds came down like flies.
Brady had reached this year’s Australian Open final and had refined her game in recent seasons which culminated in a top 20 ranking. But Giorgi has been a customary name for spoiling the party and upsetting the favorites irrespective of her form.
Her ferocious power off both wings is a nightmare to counterpunch. And with the American fighting fire with fire, there was bound to be just one winner.
Giorgi had fewer errors, despite her risk-tolerant baseline game (15 to Brady’s 27) and had a striking rate of points won behind her second serve (73% to Brady’s 22%). Brady served seven double faults and broke Giorgi’s serve twice. In comparison, the Italian secured five breaks of serve from 10 chances and turned out a difficult match at least on paper, into a routine victory.

Vesnina Rolls Back the Years
Elena Vesnina outlasted Jelena Ostapekno in a marathon three-set match that lasted two hours and 20 minutes to book an unlikely second-round spot.
Vesnina’s victory which came at astonishingly astronomical odds over the Eastbourne champion meant that she won her singles match on her Olympics debut. Just 12 months ago, she had no reason to come back to tennis and instead chose to prioritize motherhood.
But after months of the WTA sending her invitations to make a comeback with a protected ranking, she answered those calls in 2021. She had won two completed matches prior to her shock win over the Latvian, but Sunday’s 6-4 6-7 6-4 victory was her biggest by ranking this term.
The Russian relied heavily on her big serve which came into play for most of the scorching afternoon. She served 16 aces (twice the number of Ostapenko), and both players won a joint-high 80% of first-serve points. But it appeared that World No. 30 struggled under the sweltering conditions and was affected by nerves.
Vesnina garnered a decisive break in game nine of the third set and made no mistake while serving for the match.
Giorgi v Vesnina Prediction and Tip
Giorgi and Vesnina haven’t played in four years and a lot has changed since then. The Italian is no longer a top 30 player and the Russian is only just making her comeback to tennis after missing three years of competitive action. But there will be no shortage of quality as both players possess power-packed games.
