Nadia Podoroska v Ekaterina Alexandrova Head to Head
Alexandrova holds a 2-0 lead over Podoroska at the moment, last defeating her in the Miami Open 2021 6-0, 6-4.

Alexandrova Upsets Mertens
26-year-old Ekaterina Alexandrova defeated the number 12 seed, Belgium’s Elise Mertens by 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to register one of her biggest wins of the season. Currently ranked World No. 34 on the singles circuit, the Russian has had a pretty decent season so far.
The quarterfinal runs in the Strasbourg Open and Bett1Open were good examples of her ability to adapt to different surfaces – in the latter, she defeated World No. 6 Elina Svitolian en route in straight sets.
Apart from this, Alexandrova also reached the same round in WTA Stuttgart (defeating Belinda Bencic) and the semifinal in the Gippsland Trophy (upsetting Iga Swiatek and Simona Halep on the way).
It is also worth mentioning that a majority of her losses in 2021 have come at the hands of women ranked well above her.
While Alexandrova lacks consistency right now, she has proven on numerous occasions that she can go head to head with players above her punching weight and come out as the victor. What her season

Podoroska Breezes into Round Two
Facing Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhastan, Nadia Podoroska didn’t have to work hard in her opening round match of the Tokyo Olympics 2020. After losing the first set 7-6(0), the Kazakh retired going 3-1 up in the second set due to an injury.
Oddly enough, her compatriots Zarina Diyas and Yaroslava Shvedova also retired in the second set from their respective matches.
Ranked four places below her Russian adversary, Podoroska’s recent form is quite similar to her opponent’s – the 24-year-old was a quarterfinalist in the Serbia Open, Bad Homburg Open, and the Yarra Valley Classic (where she beat Petra Kvitova en route). Additionally, she also defeated former World No. 1 Serena Williams in the Italian Open.
But apart from these highlights, Podoroska too suffers from a lack of consistency and overall form. Her last tournament was Wimbledon where she fell in round two – just like Alexandrova.
Alexandrova v Podoroska Prediction and Tip
Alexandrova will start as the favourite on account of her slightly superior pedigree, form, and experience on the tour. That said, the match may swing in the direction as Podoroska has proven herself to be a capable player.
