Elena Rybakina v Donna Vekic Head to Head
This will be the first professional meeting between the two ladies.

Vekic Stuns Sabalenka
It is often said that in big tournaments, past results and form do not account for much. Donna Vekic, like several others in the field, has proven just that by upsetting the might Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(3) in the second round of the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Vekic arrived for the Games with a win-loss tally of 7-7 while Sabalenka was cruising on confidence as World No. 3 and the two singles titles in 2021. Yet, the 25-year-old Croat overcame all odds and reached the third round.
In the opening match here in Tokyo, Vekic also found herself in another three-setter – this one against the experienced Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia.
With these back to back wins, Vekic is on track to post her best results in 2021. Following a fourth-round run in the Australian Open, she took time off the tour before resuming the play in the French Open. Following an early-round exit there, the current World No. 50 moved on to reach the third round in Nottingham and Birmingham.
Vekic has peaked at the #19 position in the rankings. With that, she has an impressive resume of top 10 wins against the likes of Petra Kvitova, Kiki Bertens, and Sloane Stephens.

Rybakina Cruises On
Kazakh No. 1 Elena Rybakina defeated Rebecca Peterson of Sweden 6-2, 6-3 to reach the third round in Tokyo. The 22-year-old, in conjunction with her straight-set win over Samantha Stosur in the opener, is yet to drop a set in the competition. Moreover, she looks to be sharper than many other players in the field.
Currently ranked World No. 20, Rybakina arrived in Japan on the heels of a semifinal run in Eastbourne and a fourth-round appearance in Wimbledon. Earlier in the season, she was also a quarterfinalist in the French Open, beating former world number one Serena Williams on the way.
She has made great strides on the tour over the last couple of seasons, including reaching five singles final on the tour in 2020. The youngster has proven her mettle on several occasions and is a formidable opponent to face on any day.
Rybakina v Vekic Prediction and Tip
This is an evenly matched fixture that can go either way. Vekic has done well to find her groove, right in the nick of time while Rybakina continues to ride the momentum wave.
Expect an intriguing game of tennis.
