Garbine Muguruza v Alison Van Uytvanck Head to Head
Muguruza holds a 3-1 lead over Alison Van Uytvanck, last defeating her in the 2021 Yarra Valley Classic with 6-2, 6-0.

Business as Usual for Muguruza
Garbine Muguruza will be pleased with the season she has had so far. She is finally back in the top 10 as World No. 9 and has also won her first singles title since the 2019 Monterrey Open.
The Spaniard achieved that feat in Dubai Championships, beating Barbora Krejcikova in the final. In the preceding tournaments of the Yarra Valley Classic and the Qatar Open, Muguruza was also the runner-up falling just short in the final match.
On clay and grass, however, Muguruza wasn’t this impressive with most of her runs ending in early rounds. Her best results came in the Italian Open and Wimbledon, where she reached the third round.
But in the Tokyo Olympics Games, the former world number one has found rhythm once again after defeating Veronika Kudermetova and Qiang Wang in straight sets.

Van Uytvanck Upsets Kvitova
Alison Van Uytvanck has just delivered one of the biggest wins of her career, as well as the season so far. In the second round in Tokyo, she defeated the Rio Olympics bronze medal winner Petra Kvitova 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.
Needless to say, this kind of an outcome was largely unexpected in a match where on one hand, you have a former World No. 2 and a major winner while on the other, there’s the player whose season is surmised with a W/L tally of 9-9.
What’s remarkable is seven of those nine wins this year came in the month of June in Nottingham – a quarterfinal run in the WTA Nottingham Open and a title-win in the ITF $100,000 at the same venue. Up until that point, the 27-year-old Belgian was on a six-match losing streak stretching back to the Australian Open earlier in the year.
Apart from these results, Van Uytvanck’s year has been largely uneventful, at least up until now.
Muguruza v Van Uytvanck Prediction and Tip
Muguruza is in a comfortable position to win this match but upsets seem to be the norm here in Tokyo. The Belgian will look to retain that momentum from the Kvitova win and make life difficult for her opponent.
Keeping aside any surprises, expect the Spanish to reach the quarters.
