Stefano Travaglia v Holger Rune Preview

In what will be their first meeting the world number 88 Travaglia will have the 206th-ranked Rune as his first round opponent.

Travaglia hasn’t had the best of seasons, with the clay-court specialist having won just four matches on this surface as compared to his nine defeats. The good news, in a small sort of a consolatory way is it was finally in Umag he finally managed to clinch a couple of successive victories.

That he defeated Jaume Munar and Carlos Tarberner in that tournament adds to that confidence, but Travaglia is up against a talented teenager in this one.

Now Rune hasn’t won a lot of matches on the ATP circuit, but on clay and even on the Challenger circuit, the Danish world number 206 has done well enough to enter this match at nearly even keel.

What obviously helps is he has won a Challenger title on clay and was a quarterfinalist at Santiago Open. Makes for an interesting viewing.

Travaglia v Rune Tip

Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)

Federico Delbonis v Arthur Rinderknech Preview

In-form Argentine Delbonis will take on the 26-year-old Rinderknech in his opening round encounter in Kitzbuhel, in what will also be their first meeting.

Delbonis, a quarterfinalist in this tournament last season, is coming off some solid showing on clay, the highlight being his fourth round appearance at French Open. And then there were three other ATP tournament semifinals as well, in Santiago, Belgrade and most recently in Hamburg.

As a result, the 46th-ranked Delbonis, who is 127-97 on career clay court win-loss, should back himself to get past Rinderknech.

Now, Rinderknech himself prefers clay and at Gstaad last week won a couple of rounds to make the quarterfinals. This included a shock victory over Roberto Bautista-Agut, having also entered the last eight stage at Bastad.

Earlier this year, he was a losing quarterfinalist at Lyon, another tournament on clay, all of which has pushed him up to 91st in the world – his career-best ranking.

Can he surprise his opponent here?

Delbonis v Rinderknech Tip

Radu Albot v Marco Cecchinato Preview

In a match between two players ranked outside the top 80, Cecchinato and Albot will go head to head in their opening round encounter here in Austria on Tuesday.

While they haven’t played on the ATP main circuit before this, there have been two meetings on the Challenger circuit and both have been won by Albot.

Those, however, came in the 2014-15 period and Cecchinato has gone through a lot since – he once touched 16th in the world before dropping badly in his rankings to outside the top 100. Currently he is 83rd in the world, having reached the final of Parma Open earlier this year.

Albot’s 1-5 record on clay this year doesn’t evoke any positivity and we expect Cecchinato to cruise through to an easy win here/

Albot v Cecchinato Tip

Cecchinato to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)

Gianluca Mager v Dennis Novak Preview

The 74th-ranked Mager will have world number 124 Novak facing him in the opening round in Kitzbuhel and this contest looks like it could be heading only one way.

That’s because Mager has established himself in clay court tournaments in recent times and over Challengers, qualifiers and main draw matches, he has won 20 of the 34 matches he has played this season. This includes a quarterfinal appearance in Belgrade and a title win at Marbella Challenger for Mager.

On the other hand Novak has just one main draw win on clay, and that came in Gstaad last week. He defeated the 171st-ranked Kacper Zuk before falling to Casper Ruud.

If Novak needs to come close to upsetting Mager’s apple-cart, he would have to do a lot better than the best he has put up so far this season.

Mager v Novak Tip

Mager to win: 4/6 (bet365)
