Jordan Thompson v Peter Gojowczyk Head to Head
Thompson and Gojowczyk have never been paired against each other on a tennis court and it should be fun seeing them going head-to-head without much knowledge about each other’s strengths and weaknesses. With neither player taking any statistical advantage into the game, it will be a battle between equals and a fascinating one at that.

Thompson Gets Past Harris
Ranked 27th in singles currently, Jordan Thompson was pushed hard by rising South African Lloyd Harris in his third round tie but did well enough to eventually prevail in three sets.
Standing at 6′, the 27-year-old Australian had to navigate a tough passage of play in the opening set, with Harris throwing punches at him and taking it to a tiebreaker.
However, Thompson got himself a mini-break and played the key points better in the tiebreaker to win it 7-2.
However, not an easy prey for his opponents at the best of times, the South African staged a stirring fightback in the second set. Taking the attack to Thompson, Harris broke the Aussie and seized on his advantage to force the match into a decider.
The momentum shifted yet again as Thompson flattened Harris with another service break and raced clear to eventually come through 7-6 (7-2), 1-6, 6-2.
Picking up from his quarter-final finish at Los Cabos Open, the Australian has raised visions of lifting his maiden Tour title in Atlanta. But it’s still early days as stiffer battles lie ahead.

Qualifier Gojowczyk Upsets Querry
Though a seasoned hand at 32, Gojowczyk had to clear the qualifiers to secure passage to the main draw at Atlanta Open.
Lying comfortably outside the Top-100 in singles currently, the German couldn’t have picked a tougher opponent in the first round than big-serving American Sam Querrey.
However, as often happens when one is paired opposite a decidedly more accomplished opponent, the experienced German raised his game up a notch after going down in the opening set.
Having lost the first set 4-6, Gojowczyk put himself back into contention by taking the second to a tiebreak and winning it 7-3.
The decider panned out similarly as the second set, with the German seizing the key moments in the tiebreak to pip the veteran American to a win.
The qualifier, who recorded a quarter-final finish at the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships, has shown that he has the game to turn battles against more accomplished opponents in his favour and won’t be an easy get for Thompson in the last 16.
Thompson v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip
With no previous meetings between them, expect the two to produce a close and absorbing last-16 clash. However, Thompson, who is placed comfortably higher in the rankings, would be the bookmaker’s favourite to sail into the semifinals.
