Cameron Norrie v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

Los Cabos Winner Norrie Hopes to Take Form Forward

Norrie, who was given a bye in the first round, chose not to play for Britain in the Olympics, although he would have been an automatic selection, because there were no ranking points on offer.

At the time he said that there were better opportunities to move up the ranking and maintain hs momentum in other tournaments, and his decision was justified in Los Cabos on Sunday when he won his first major ATP title,

He beat the American Brandon Nakashima easily in straight sets in the final.

And he will be finally glad to get the monkey off his back as being a serial runner-up, having lost his four previous finals, including three this year.

On clay he lost to Albert Ramos-Vinolas in Estoril and Stefanos Tsitsipas in Lyon, and then on grass to Matteo Berrettini at Queen’s.

Kyrgios Knocks Out Anderson

Kyrgios is playing in only his fourth tournament of the year, and only his second outside Australia, the other being Wimbledon, where he got to the third round.

In fact, he has barely played at all in the last 18 months, unwilling to travel because of Covid restrictions, the reason he gave when declining to play for Australia at the Olympics.

Capable of beating anybody in the world on his day, he remains an enigma, capable of producing scintillating tennis, only to lose his cool with the officials and his opponent the next.

However, it was the better side of the Australian who was on show during his first round defeat of Kevin Andersson of South Africa, who has dropped to number 75 in the world rankings following his sustained injury problems.

Anderson saved two break points in his opening service game, but they turned out to be the only ones created by either man in the entire first set. Instead, it went to a tie-break, where both men suddenly struggled to hold.

Kyrgios eventually took it by virtue of dropping hs serve less frequently that Anderson.

The pattern of service dominance continued into the second set, until the eighth game when the South African was broken.

It proved to be the only breakoff the match as Kyrgios served out next game.

Norrie v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip
