Zverev Continues His Excellent Form
Alexander Zverev moved into the quarterfinals at the Olympics with a third straight sets win in the tournament.
The World No. 5 needed an hour and 39 minutes as he defeated Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
Zverev got the only break of the first set and then broke Basilashvili in the eighth game of the second to go 5-3 up. But he threw away three match points as Basilashvili got the break back to stay alive. The set went to a tiebreak, and teh German finally sealed the contest 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
It was a relatively tougher contest for Zverev, who beat Chinese Taipei’s Lu Yen-Hsun 6-1, 6-3 in the first round and Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan 6-2, 6-2 in the second round.

Chardy Ends Broady’s Campaign
Back in form on the hard courts, Jeremy Chardy is into the quarterfinals in Tokyo.
The Frenchman ended Liam Broady’s resistance on Wednesday, beating the Briton 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 6-1 in two hours and 39 minites.
After two hard-fought sets, Chardy raced away with the third to collect his second three-set win in the tournament. The 34-year-old had beaten Aslan Karatsev in three in the second round, defeating the Russian 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.
He had an easy start to the competition though, defeating Chile’s Tomas Barrios 6-1, 7-6 (7-4)
Chardy had come to the Olympics with a 16-16 record this year. He was 11-7 on hard courts, reaching the semifinals in Antalya and Melbourne-2 and quarterfinals in Rotterdam and Dubai, but had lost form later, going 4-6 on clay and 1-3 on grass.
Zverev v Chardy Prediction and Tip
Zverev has dominated this rivalry and he remains the favourite to enter the semifinals. However, Chardy has always tested Zverev in their previous matches. The German was taken to five in their meeting at the Australian Open in 2019 and then needed two tiebreaks to beat him in Shanghai. So expect another very close match with Zverev going through.
