Brandon Nakashima v Alexei Popyrin Head to Head

Since Brandon Nakashima and his Australian opponent Alexei Popyin have never featured in a head-to-head clash till date, it would be interesting to see how the two players go up against each other, having no prior sense of the individual strengths and weaknesses of one another.

Nakashima Coming off Atlanta Final

Continuing with his phenomenal run at Los Cabos where he finished runner-up after losing to Briton Cameron Norrie in the final, Brandon Nakashima has booked his finals berth in the ongoing Atlanta Open in the quest of his maiden Tour title.

Currently ranked 115th in singles, the 19-year-old American reached the title-decider in Atlanta on the back of three impressive wins, including an upset victory over current World No. 22 Milos Raonic.

After laboring to a three-set win over compatriot Trent Bryde in his Atlanta opener, Nakashima came back from a set down to turn the tables, quite emphatically, on big-serving Canadian Raonic.

Taking the confidence and belief from the Raonic upset into his next against Jordan Thompson, the American produced a clinical performance to send the seasoned Australian crashing out of the tournament.

Nakashima is set for an absorbing final battle against American John Isner in Atlanta and irrespective of which way the match goes, he will enter the Washington draw as one of the dark horses.

Popyrin Suffers Opening Loss to Johnson in Atlanta

Though a powerhouse of talent at just 21, Alexei Popyrin wasn’t in his element in his tournament opener at Atlanta as he went down in straight sets to American Steve Johnson.

After losing a closely fought tiebreak for the opening set, the Australian was simply outgunned by the American in the second, with the final score-line reading 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in Johnson’s favor.

After lifting his maiden Tour title at the prestigious Singapore Open, Popyrin hasn’t had any other memorable outing on court this year barring a  fourth-round loss to 13-time Roland-Garros champion Rafael Nadal at the Madrid Open.

However, as he proved in the Singapore final against Alexander Bublik, the Australian could be unstoppable on his day and won’t be a pushover for Nakashima in the Washington opener.

Nakashima v Popyrin Prediction and Tip

Current form makes Nakashima a favorite in this first-round clash at Washington Open. However, if Popyrin could rediscover even half of the form that took him to his maiden title in Singapore, he would be a handful against the American.

Tip: Nakashima to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
