Marie Bouzkova v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two 23-year-olds on the WTA Tour.

Bouzkova Seeking Reprieve on the American Tour

Marie Bouzkova started the year on a terrific note by reaching the third round in the Yarra Valley Classic and later, reaching the final in the Phillip Island Trophy. The latter was only the second WTA final of her career – a feat she achieved by defeating Bianca Andreescu in the semis. However, the Czech ultimately fell to Daria Kasatkina, thus extending her lift her first singles trophy.

A semifinal run after that in Guadalajara neatly sums up the highlights of her 2021 season so far. On clay and grass, Bouzkova clearly struggled as she failed to move past the early rounds (except in Nottingham where she made it to the quarterfinal).

Bouzkova arrived in San Jose on the back of a three-match losing streak, stretching across the Wimbledon and WTA Prague in July. That said, she has won two doubles titles this season with Lucie Hradecka in addition to settling for the runner-up trophy in Charleston in the same discipline.

Clearly, Bouzkova has the skillset and momentum needed to carry that fine run forward. Given the way she performed on the hard courts at the start of the year, there is no reason why she can’t find the same tempo once again.

Konjuh Confident of a Deep Run

Ana Konjuh started as a qualifier in the Silicon Valley Classic and navigated her two matches with absolute ease to reach the main draw.

Currently ranked #116 on the singles circuit – far off her career-best ranking of World No. 20, the Croat has been working relentlessly to find her former groove following the elbow surgery in 2017 and the subsequent time off the tour that pushed her outside the top 500.

This year, she has featured in a host of ITF and WTA events to build some form – and by the looks of it, the youngster has been growing wonderfully. Case in point, she was ranked #477 in January.

Her first major breakthrough came in the Miami Open where she reached the fourth round (defeating Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek en route). Then in May, she reached the final of the Serbia Ladies Open as a qualifier where she was forced to retire from her trophy game against Paula Badosa. Nonetheless, it was still an accomplishment since it was Konjuh’s first final appearance in 2017 January.

Over the last couple of tournaments, Konjuh has struggled a bit as she was beaten in the early rounds in Wimbledon, Hamburg Open, and the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Bouzkova v Konjuh Prediction and Tip

The two players are evenly matched for this affair. While Bouzkova will start as the favourite, she faces an opponent who was once pegged for a top 10 appearance and possibly, more.

Expect an entertaining game of tennis.
