Korda on the Rise

It’s a year when Sebastian Korda has announced his arrival on the big stage and is making an impact in big tournaments. The 21-year-old was outside the top 100 when the year started, but a host of stunning performances has seen him ascend to the current ranking of No. 45.

Such has been his impact that it’s even impressed Rafael Nadal, who, according to ATP’s official website, has said that Korda “is going to be a great one.”

Korda’s rise began with the run to the final of the Delray Beach Open, his first tournament of the year; he missed the title but caught the attention of the world.

A couple of tournaments later, he shone at Miami, reaching the last eight by taking out some big names on the way. On clay, he clinched his first career title, by winning in Parma without dropping a set the entire week and then made an impressive Wimbledon debut, reaching the fourth round and showcasing his ability to deliver on all surfaces.

There will be a lot of expectations from Korda during the North American hard court season, which for him begins with the second round in Washington on Tuesday.

Pospisil Rallies Past Gomez

Canada’s Vasek Pospisil fought back from a set down to beat Ecuador’s Emilio Gomez in the first round on Monday.

Gomez got the only break of serve in the first set, but Pospisil came back well, racing to a 4-0 lead in the second, before Gomez got a break back. The Canadian eventually saw off the set without any more jitters and then dominated the third with three breaks of serve to close out the contest 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and 12 minutes.

The World No. 61, who served 10 aces in the match, hasn’t had a great season so far, but improved to 5-8 following the win.

Korda v Pospisil Prediction and Tip

Given Korda’s form, the 12th seed will be the favourite to win this contest and advance to the next round.
