Kecmanovic was a Part of Serbian Olympic Contingent

Kecmanovic was part of the strong Serbian contingent, led by Novak Djokovic, that represented the country at the Olympic Games, although they all returned empty-handed, in his case losing in the second round to Ugo Humbert of France.

That was the latest disappointment in what has largely been a mediocre season by his standards, with hs best performance coming on home soil in Belgrade in April, where he reached the quarter-finals before losing to Djokovic.

However, prior to Tokyo, he only won two more matches after that, reaching the second round of both the French Open and Wimbledon.

Berankis Ends Losing Run

In June, Berankis, the Lithuanian number one, reached the third round of the French Open for the first time in his career, emulating his previous best at a Grand Slam event at the US Open last year.

However, after losing that match to Djokovic, he then suffered defeat in the first round of four ATP tournaments,

It will, therefore, have been a relied to him that he was able to snap that losing run by beating the qualifier, Mitchell Kroeger, of the United States, the world number 174, in the first round of Washington on Monday.

The first set was dominated by serve to such an extent that there was only one break point created on either side of the net created. When Berankis was unable to convert it a tie-break was required, and, after the pair swapped mini-breaks, it was Kroeger who eventually faltered allowing the Lithuanian to capitalise.

Berankis secured an early break in the second half and then underpinned hs position with a second one.

Kroeger bravely saved four match points, but Berankis made the fifth one count.

Kecmanovic v Berankis Prediction and Tip

Although Berankis has now ended hs recent losing streak, Kecmanovic, who had a bye in the first round, should be too strong for him.
