Tiafoe Back from Tokyo

Tiafoe is back from Tokyo, where he was representing the USA at the Olympics.

However, in what was a disappointing campaign for the American tennis team, having beaten Soonwoo Kwon of South Korea in the first round, his run was ended by Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the second.

The American, though, after a disappointing few seasons, has shown traces of a return to form this year, making the fourth round of the Miami Masters before losing to Daniil Medvedev.

And he had also enjoyed success on grass, winning a Challenger event in Nottingham, and the quarter-finals at Queen’s, concluding with a third round at Wimbledon before losing to Karen Khachanov.

Tiafoe had a first round bye in Washington.

Brooksby Enjoying Breakthrough Year

This has been a breakthrough year for Brooksby. Not only has he won three tournaments on the Challenger tour – in Potchefstroom, South Africa and Orlando, and Tallahassee, USA, but he was runner-up in another final in Cleveland.

More importantly, though, having won hs second main ATP main draw match ever at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, he went on to reach the final there, the second-youngest player to manage that feat in the history of the event.

And the man who beat him in the final then, Kevin Anderson of South Africa, was the same opponent he faced in the first round in Washington, with a completely different outcome.

The first set went with service, although both men had chances to break which were not taken.

Anderson had the advantage in the tie-break, but Brooksby fought back, went a mini-break-up and from there was able to serve out for the set.

Again, serve dominated the second set, although Anderson did have to save one break point. However, he offered up two more opportunities to Brooksby, who took the second and then held his own serve to clinch the match.

Tiafoe v Brooksby Prediction and Tip

This match could go either way, and there is no obvious favourite, despite the disparity in world ranking. However, Brooksby is playing with a lot of confidence right now, and he is just tipped to edge this match.
